- Pen 9 reacts mainly with the thiazolidin ring of penicillin, but not with the lactam ring. The nature of the side chain in the penicilloyl group does not effect antibody binding as was shown by testing Pen 9 against benzylpenicillin, ampicillin, amoxillin and 6-aminopenicillanic acid.
