- Biotin Azide (PEG4 carboxamide-6-Azidohexanyl Biotin) is non-cleavable, azide-activated biotinylation reagent that reacts with terminal alkynes via a copper-catalyzed click reaction to produce a stable triazole linkage. It also reacts with cyclooctynes via a copper-free “click chemistry” reaction to form a stable triazole and does not require Cu-catalyst or elevated temperatures. Biotin Azide allows for selective labeling of various alkynylated molecules (such as DNA, oligonucleotides, and proteins) with biotin for the subsequent detection or affinity purification with streptavidin, avidin or NeutrAvidin® biotin-binding protein. For the detection of low abundance targets or where significant increase in signal intensity is desired please consider using next generation azides probes containing an internal copper-chelating motif. Biotin Azide is structurally identical to Biotin Azide (PEG4 carboxamide-6-Azidohexanyl Biotin) (Catalog number: B10184, sold by ThermoFisher Scientific), and can be used as less expensive replacement.
