- Fragile X Mental Retardation Protein (FMRP) is an RNA-Binding protein that is associated to polysomes and may be involved in the transpot of mRNA from the nucleus to the cytoplasm. Defects in FMR1 are the cause of Fragile X syndrome, which is a common genetic disease characterized by moderate to severe mental retardation, macroorchidism, large ears, prominent jaw, and high-pitched, jocular speech. The defect in most fragile X syndrome patients results from an amplication of a CGG repeat regions with is directly in front of the coding region. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
