- Geranyl pyrophosphate is an intermediate in the mevalonate pathway. It is formed from dimethylallyl pyrophosphate (DMAPP and isopentenyl pyrophosphate by geranyl pyrophosphate synthase.1 Used in the biosynthesis of farnesyl pyrophosphate, geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate, cholesterol, terpenes, and terpenoids. Used as a precursor to synthesize Insect Juvenile Hormone and its analogues, which are used as insecticides for crops.
