- Disperse yellow 49 is a synthetic dye that is used in the diagnosis of skin cancer. It binds to DNA-binding proteins and is used as a counterstain for H&E staining. Disperse yellow 49 has been shown to inhibit sucrase activity and inhibit kinase signaling pathways, which are involved in cell function, dna replication, and myosin phosphatase regulation. The dye has also been shown to bind to tropomyosin and homologues of the virus SV40. Disperse yellow 49 is not active against viruses or cells without myosin phosphatase activity.
