- Immunoglobulins (Igs) are glycoproteins found in serum and tissue fluids of all mammals. Some Igs act as cell surface receptors and others are antibodies that travel in the blood or lymph. Ig molecules have two functional regions, one which binds antigens and another which controls effector functions, such as binding to host cells. Structurally, Igs have two identical heavy polypeptide chains and two identical light polypeptide chains that are linked by disulfide bonds. The heavy chains determine an Ig′s class and subclass (isotype). Most higher mammals have five different classes of immunoglobulins: IgG, IgA, IgM, IgD, and IgE. Source: Native gamma-globulin from bovine serum. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile sodium chloride. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
