- Triacontanol is a natural compound that can be found in plant waxes. It has been shown to have a toxic effect on the Galleria mellonella, an insect commonly used in toxicity studies. Triacontanol has also been shown to have various physiological effects, such as increasing enzyme activities and reactive oxygen species production and inhibiting photosynthetic activity. The optimum concentration of triacontanol for these effects was found to be 10 μM, which is comparable to the concentration of triacontanol found in galleria mellonella larvae exposed to high concentrations of this compound. This compound has also been shown to exhibit antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli and S. aureus, but not against E. coli O157:H7 or P. aeruginosa. Synonyms: 1-Hydroxytriacontane; Melissyl Alcohol; Miraculan; Myricyl Alcohol; NSC 402492; NSC 405588; Nutron; Prosopol; Tomatex; Triacontyl Alcohol CAS No: 593-50-0 Molecular Formula: C₃₀H₆₂O Molecular Weight: 438.81 Appearance: White to off-white solid Purity: ≥85% FTIR: Conforms to reference Melting Point: 81-82°C Solubility: Benzene (Slightly), Chloroform (Slightly, Heated).
