- Tunicamycin is an antibiotic that inhibits N-linked glycosylation by blocking the formation of N-acetylglucosamine-lipid intermediates. It is particularly relevant in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease research, where ER dysfunction and protein misfolding are central pathological features.
