Bilirubin oxidase participates in the metabolism of porphyrins and chlorophyll; and acts as a catalyst for oxygen reduction. Bilirubin oxidase can serve as a component of a single-enzyme oxygen removal system for reductase-based voltammetric biosensors[1][2].
