- Specificity:
- Recognizes human heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1), a 288 amino acid enzyme with a crucial role in heme catabolism, cleaving the heme ring to form biliverdin which is further processed to form bilirubin by a reductase enzyme. HO-1 acitivity is highest in the spleen where it is involved in the processing of senescent erythrocytes. HO-1expression can be increased during cellular stress, including heat shock.
