- CD25 (IL-2RA Alpha) is the 55 kDa subunit of the interleukin 2 receptor alpha chain which has been shown to play roles in lymphocyte differentiation, activation, and proliferation. IL-2RA Alpha is a transmembrane glycoprotein comprised of a heavily glycosylated extracellular domain, a transmembrane region and a short cytoplasmic tail. IL-2RA Alpha heterodimerizes with IL-2RB Beta (CD122) and IL-2RG Gamma (CD132) and forms the IL-2 receptor complex. IL-2RA Alpha by itself binds IL-2 with relatively low affinity, while the IL-2 receptor complex binds IL-2 with high affinity. IL-2RA Alpha mutations cause severe immunodeficiency.
