- Interleukin-4 (IL-4) is a pleiotropic immune cytokine secreted by activated TH2 cells that inhibits bone resorption. IL-4 is critical for inducing allergic responses. It has many biological roles, including the stimulation of activated B-cell and T-cell proliferation, and the differentiation of CD4+ T-cells into Th2 cells. It is also a key regulator in humoral and adaptive immunity. IL-4 is required for the pathogenesis of atopic diseases and immune regulation.
