Bottromycin A2 has a cyclic peptide structure and shows inhibitory activity against gram-positive bacteria. It is also reported to have low toxicity but strong antibacterial activity against drug-resistant bacteria, such as against MRSA(Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus) and VRE(Vancomycin-Resistant enterococci). The mechanism of Bottromycin A2 is known to inhibit bacterial protein synthesis by binding to the A-site of ribosome and blocking aminoacyl-tRNA binding.
