- Connective tissue; in the narrow sense; is defined by its three fiber types: collagen fibers; reticular fibers; and elastic fibers. Among them; collagen fibers are the most widely distributed and the most abundant. Weigert's Iron Hematoxylin Staining Solution is a strongly staining solution composed of hematoxylin and ferric chloride. It is prepared fresh by mixing immediately before use; and is mainly used for connective tissue staining; such as in Masson’s trichrome staining; Van Gieson staining; etc.
