The protein localizes to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER); and may recycle between the ER and ER-Golgi intermediate compartment. Mutations in this gene are associated with progressive epilepsy with mental retardation (EMPR); which is a subtype of neuronal ceroid lipofuscinoses (NCL).
