- First described in 1993, Growth arrest-specific gene 6 (Gas6) has 44% identity to human protein S, a vitamin K-dependent negative co-regulator in the blood coagulation pathway. Similar to protein S, Gas6 is composed of defined structural motifs comprised of a gamma-carboxylated amino terminus (Gla domain), four tandem repeats of epidermal growth factor (EGF)-like domains and a large carboxy-terminal domain with similarity to the sex hormone-binding globulin (SHBG).
