- CXCL1/ GROA Alpha, also known as KC in mice and cinc1 in rats, is a member of the CXC chemokine family. Human CXCL1/ GROA Alpha has a total length of 107 amino acids (aa) with an estimated molecular weight of 11 kDa. The sequence homology of mouse and rat homologues to human protein was 57% and 59%, respectively. Genome-wide analysis showed that the protein encoded by the mouse Cxcl3 gene was homologous to the human CXCL1/ GROA Alpha protein. Human CXCL1/ GROA Alpha can be cleaved into three isoforms: CXCL1/ GROA Alpha (aa 4-73), CXCL1/ GROA Alpha (aa 5-73) and CXCL1/ GROA Alpha (aa 6-73), all of which are more active than full-length proteins. CXCL1/ GROA Alpha is secreted by mast cells and macrophages, so it acts as a chemical attractant of neutrophils, GRO-A Alpha plays an important role in inflammation and immune response, enhances immune defense by attracting and activating immune cells, is up-regulated in the tumor microenvironment, and is closely related to tumor growth, angiogenesis and metastasis. It can promote tumor progression by activating tumor-associated fibroblasts and endothelial cells.
