- Thrombomodulin(TM),also known as CD141 and BDCA3,is a transmembrane protein expressed on vascular endothelial cells (EC),arterial smooth muscle cells,monocytes and macrophages.It binds to thrombin and enhances the activation of thrombin mediated anticoagulant protein C and antifibrinolytic TAFI/ carboxypeptidase B2.Coagulation regulatory proteins can also inhibit the ability of thrombin to activate several procoagulant proteins (such as fibrinogen,factor V,factor XIII,PAR-1).
