ICE converts inactive IL-1 beta precursor to a pro-inflammatory cytokine that mediates a wide range of immune and inflammatory response. ICE-related cysteine proteases are required for E1A-induced, p53-dependent apoptosis in baby rat kidney (BRK) cells.
