Calcitonin is a hypocalcemic hormone produced by the parafollicular C cells of the thyroid or by the ultimobranchial bodies of non-mammalian vertebrates. It decreases blood calcium and phosphate due to inhibition of resorption by osteoblasts and osteocytes. Salmon calcitonin is more potent than mammalian forms. \nReferences \n1.Chestnut, C.H. et al.
