- Extra Details:
- IL-5 (Interleukin-5) is a Th2-associated cytokine primarily produced by Th2 cells, type 2 innate lymphoid cells (ILC2s), and mast cells. It signals through the IL-5 receptor complex composed of IL-5Rα and the common βc subunit, activating downstream pathways including JAK-STAT and MAPK. IL-5 plays a central role in eosinophil development, activation, and survival. In in vitro applications, IL-5 is widely used to induce eosinophil differentiation from hematopoietic progenitors and to maintain eosinophil viability and function in culture. It is also commonly applied in immune and inflammation models related to allergy, asthma, and type 2 immune responses.
