- Extra Details:
- SCF (Stem Cell Factor), also known as KIT ligand or mast cell growth factor, is a glycoprotein that exists in both soluble and membrane-bound forms. It functions by binding to the c-KIT receptor on the cell surface and activating downstream signaling pathways. When used in combination with other cytokines—such as IL-3, IL-6, and FLT3 ligand—SCF promotes the expansion of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells in vitro. It acts synergistically with EPO to support erythroid progenitor differentiation and with TPO to enhance megakaryopoiesis. In organoid culture systems, SCF helps maintain the activity of intestinal stem cells, mammary stem cells, and other tissue-specific stem cells. The core functions of SCF in cell culture include sustaining stem cell activity, promoting proliferation, and inhibiting apoptosis. It is particularly indispensable in in vitro studies of the hematopoietic system and specific lineage development. Its applications span foundational research, regenerative medicine, and drug development.
