- Extra Details:
- IL-15 (Interleukin-15) is a pleiotropic cytokine belonging to the common gamma-chain (γc) cytokine family. While structurally similar to IL-2, it exhibits distinct functional properties. It is primarily produced by antigen-presenting cells (such as dendritic cells and macrophages), epithelial cells, and fibroblasts, and acts through activation of the JAK-STAT signaling pathway, predominantly via JAK1/3 and STAT3/5. IL-15 is essential for the survival of memory CD8+ T cells and natural killer (NK) cells. In serum-free culture systems, it can substitute for serum by providing crucial survival signals, thereby promoting the persistence and proliferation of T and NK cells while enhancing NK cell cytotoxicity. As a key tool in tumor immunology, infectious immunity, and cell therapy research, IL-15 plays an especially indispensable role in experiments requiring long-term maintenance of immune cell activity.
