The proto-oncogene c-Kit (CD117) is expressed in various cell types, encompassing both normal and neoplastic hematopoietic cells. Within normal bone marrow, CD117 expression is observed in approximately half of the CD34-positive hematopoietic progenitor cells, which are already committed to the erythroid, granulomonocytic, and megakaryocytic cell lineages.
