This protein acts as an inhibitor of cysteine proteinases found in a variety of biological human fluids and secretions and acts as a regulator for its enzymatic activity. A mutation in the gene expressing cystatin C has been associated with amyloid angiopathy. This protein is secreted by all nucleated cells and is freely filtered by the glomerulus. Therefore,
