- This antibody recognizes a discontinuous conformational epitope located on domain III of the ectoplasmic region of the apical membrane antigen 1 (AMA1) of Plasmodium vivax and also cross reacts with AMA1 from Plasmodium knowlesi, Plasmodium cynomolgi, Plasmodium berghei and Plasmodium falciparum. AMA1 is involved in parasite invasion of erythrocytes.
