- This antibody recognizes monkeypox virus (MPXV). It also crossreacts with other orthopox viruses. Monkeypox virus (MPV) is a double-stranded DNA, zoonotic virus and a species of the genus Orthopoxvirus in the family Poxviridae. It causes a disease that has similar charactersists to smallpox but with a milder rash and a lower death rate. The virus causes disease in both humans and animals.
