- Source : Human 293 Cells;Tyrosine-protein kinase receptor UFO; also known as AXL receptor tyrosine kinase; is a member of protein kinase superfamily; Tyr protein kinase family and AXL/UFO subfamily. AXL is highly expressed in metastatic colon tumors; while only weakly expressed in normal colon tissue. AXL functions in dampening the immune response; mediating cytokine secretion; clearing apoptotic cells and debris; and maintaining cell survival. It is upregulated in various disease states; such as in the cuprizone toxicity-induced model of demyelination and in multiple sclerosis (MS) lesions; suggesting that it plays a role in disease pathogenesis. AXL also plays a role in signal transduction from the extracellular matrix into the cytoplasm by binding growth factors; and thereby implicated in the stimulation of cell proliferation.
