CTSL Human Recombinant produced in E.Coli is a single; non-glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 339 amino acids (18-333 a.a) and having a molecular mass of 38.3kDa.CTSL is fused to a 23 amino acid His-tag at N-terminus & purified by proprietary chromatographic techniques. Cathepsin-L also known as CTSL is a member of the peptidase C1 family. CTSL; is a dimer composed of disulfide-linked heavy and light chains; both formed from a single protein precursor. Furthermore; CTSL is a lysosomal cysteine proteinase which takes a main part in intracellular protein catabolism. CTSL substrates include collagen and elastin; as well as alpha-1 protease inhibitor; which is the most important controlling element of neutrophil elastase activity. CTSL has been implicated in a number of pathologic processes; including myofibril necrosis in myopathies and in myocardial ischemia; and in the renal tubular response to proteinuria. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants have been found for CTSL.
