EBI3, as part of the immunosuppressive IL-35 cytokine, plays an important role in the regulation of intestinal immune responses by controlling overwhelming T-cell activation. EBI3 deficiency does not lead to changes in intestinal pathology in trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid colitis, but is protective in oxazolone-induced colitis.
