Adeno Associated Virus (AAV) is a popular candidate for a delivery system in cell and gene therapy for several reasons:

• It has a good safety profile and, without a helper, can’t replicate by itself.
• It is less likely to integrate into the genome but still offers long lasting transgene expression
• AAV can transduce many celltypesand the different serotypes of AAV can enable specific cell types to be targeted

AAV can be used for protein over expression and for gene silencing with shRNA.
