This gene encodes the fatty acid binding protein found in epidermal cells, and was first identified as being upregulated in psoriasis tissue. Fatty acid binding proteins are a family of small, highly conserved, cytoplasmic proteins that bind long-chain fatty acids and other hydrophobic ligands. FABPs may play roles in fatty acid uptake, transport, and metabolism. Polymorphisms in this gene are associated with type 2 diabetes. The human genome contains many pseudogenes similar to this locus.[provided by RefSeq, Feb 2011]

Immunohistochemistry: Paraffin-embedded Mouse lung tissue. Antigen Retrieval: Heat mediated was performed in Citrate buffer (pH 6.0) for 20 min. The tissue section was blocked with 10% goat serum. The tissue section was then stained with 2 ug/ml ARG58575 anti-FABP5 antibody overnight at 4°C.
Immunohistochemistry: Paraffin-embedded Rat lung tissue. Antigen Retrieval: Heat mediated was performed in Citrate buffer (pH 6.0) for 20 min. The tissue section was blocked with 10% goat serum. The tissue section was then stained with 2 ug/ml ARG58575 anti-FABP5 antibody overnight at 4°C.
Western blot: 50 ug of Rat thymus and Mouse thymus lysates stained with ARG58575 anti-FABP5 antibody at 0.5 ug/ml, overnight at 4°C, under reducing conditions.
