- Protein A is 56 kDa protein molecule found in the cell wall of the bacterium Staphylococcus aureus. Protein A binds to immunoglobulins through interaction with the IgG heavy chain within the Fc region. Protein A does not bind to all IgG's equivalently and binding varies among species. Even within a species, Protein A interacts with some subclasses of IgG and not others. Protein A is well suited for purification of most rabbit, mouse, rat, and certain human IgG class of immunoglobulin. Rockland offers Protein G or recombinant Protein A/G when recommended by Rockland for optimal purification.
