- Non ionic detergents like Tween 20 are used in immunoassays for diluting antibodies to lower background, and non-specific antigen-antibody (ag-ab) reaction. This detergent is also used in washing buffer from 0.1- 0.5% in all immunoassays (ELISA, Immunohistochemistry (IHC), Blot assays and others) to reduce background. Tween 20 or Polysorbate 20 PEG(20) sorbitan monolaurate, lowers surface tension of water.
