It plays a role in odorant detection and signal transduction; coupling to olfactory G proteins (Golf) to activate adenylyl cyclase and cAMP signaling. OR10J5 contributes to olfactory perception; odor discrimination; and sensory signaling. While primarily studied in smell detection; variations in OR genes may influence olfactory sensitivity and perception among individuals.
