- Extra Details:
- OR2T12 encodes an olfactory receptor that belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor (GPCR) superfamily and is part of the large olfactory receptor gene family responsible for odor recognition. OR2T12 is expressed in the olfactory epithelium; where it binds specific odorant molecules and couples to G olf proteins to activate adenylyl cyclase; increase cAMP; and trigger neuronal depolarization for smell perception. Like other olfactory receptors; OR2T12 is a single-exon gene encoding a 7-transmembrane domain protein. Emerging studies suggest that some olfactory receptors; including OR2T12; may also be expressed in non-olfactory tissues; potentially participating in cell signaling and chemosensory responses outside the nasal cavity.
