- Somatostatin was originally isolated from the hypothalamus. It was characterized by its ability to inhibit release of growth hormone from the pituitary gland. It exists in two forms, somatostatin-14, composed of 14 amino acids and somatostatin-28, a prohormone composed of 28 residues. The Somatostatin antibody will label D cells of the endocrine mammalian pancreas and cells of the hypothalamic parvicellular region. It may prove useful for the identification of tumors and hyperplasias of the pancreatic islets. Applications: Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry. Other applications have not been tested. Recommended Dilutions: Immunohistochemistry: 1:50-1:100 on human brain. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 12 months after receipt at -20°C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing.
