- Alkaline phosphatase (AP) is a ubiquitously expressed enzyme which removes phosphate groups from target molecules, including DNA, RNA and alkaloids, under alkaline conditions, and is present at higher concentrations in the placenta (placental AP), intestines (intestinal AP) and liver/bone/kidney (tissue non-specific AP). Although the exact biochemical function of BAP is uncertain, measurement of the serum levels of BAP can be used as a biochemical indicator of bone turnover. Conditions which present with a decrease in the level of BAP (hypophosphatasemia) include the inherited bone-deforming disorder hypophosphatasia and osteoporosis, while an increase in BAP (hyperphosphatasemia) is associated with Paget’s disease, bone fractures and osteosarcomas. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Store product at 4°C if to be used immediately within two weeks. For long-term storage, aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable at -20°C for 12 months after receipt. Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Note: Applications are based on unconjugated antibody.
