- Insulin is one of the major regulatory hormones of intermediate metabolism throughout the body. It is produced by B cells of the pancreas. The biological actions of this hormone involve integration of carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism. Insulin enhances membrane transport of glucose, amino acids, and certain ions. It also promotes glycogen storage, formation of triglycerides and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids. Immunocytochemical investigations have localized insulin in the B cells of pancreatic islets of Langerhans. Deficiency of insulin results in diabetes mellitus, one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in the general population. Insulin is also present in tumors of B cell origin such as insulinoma. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: ELISA (Detection): 5ng/ml Immunohistochemistry (Frozen/paraffin sections): 1:50-1:100. Does not require protein digestion or antigen retrieval using heat treatment for paraffin sections. Optimal working dilutions to be determined by researcher. Recommended Secondary Reagents: I1904-65W: IgG, F(ab’)2 (HRP) Pab RbxMo I1904-66C: IgG, F(ab’)2, X-Adsorbed (HRP) Pab RbxMo Recommended IHC Positive Control Tissue: Pancreas Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
