- HIV is a member of the genus Lentivirus, part of the family of Retroviridae, which use reverse transcriptase to convert the viral RNA genome into double stranded DNA. This is then integrated into the cell’s DNA, which is followed by latency or active HIV replication. HIV primarily infects CD4+ T lymphocytes, resulting in their dramatic decline. When CD4+ T cell numbers decline below a critical level, cell-mediated immunity is lost, and the body becomes progressively more susceptible to opportunistic infections. If untreated, this can lead to AIDS (Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome). Applications: Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: Direct Immunofluorescence: 1:10-1:50. Acetone fixation of the antigen source is recommended prior to staining. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Titer: Indirect Immunofluorescence: 1:1000 Storage and Stability: Store product at 4°C if to be used immediately within two weeks. For long-term storage, aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable at -20°C for 12 months after receipt. Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. Caution: FITC conjugates are sensitive to light. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
