- This gene encodes one of the major intermediate filament proteins of mature astrocytes. It is used as a marker to distinguish astrocytes from other glial cells during development. Mutations in this gene cause Alexander disease, a rare disorder of astrocytes in the central nervous system. An additional transcript variant has been described, but its full length sequence has not been determined. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunocytochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1:10,000 on Rat Brain Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: Neural tissue or astrocyte culture Negative Control: Non-neural tissue or neuronal culture Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
