- Ceruloplasmin is a ~132kD metalloprotein that is secreted into the plasma by liver hepatocytes and activated monocytes/macrophages. Ceruloplasmin functions in copper transport, iron homeostasis, antioxidant defence, angiogenesis and coagulation. Deficiency in ceruloplasmin is termed aceruloplasminemia, an autosomal recessive disorder which leads to iron accumulation and tissue damage, in particular in the brain and visceral organs. Clinical features include retinal degeneration, diabetes mellitus and neurological disturbances. Elevated plasma ceruloplasmin has been shown to pose an increased risk in atherosclerosis and myocardial infarction. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunohistochemistry: frozen Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt.
