- CD56 is a 175-185kD isoform of the neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM), expressed by lymphocytes mediating non-MHC restricted cytotoxicity and is present on some neural tissues and tumors. NCAM is involved in intercellular adhesion and plays a role in outgrowth of neurites and the development of the nervous system. Two major epitopes have been defined. At the international Workshop on SCLC antibodies, categorized as cluster 1 antibody. All cells in small cell carcinomas and carcinoids of the lung are strongly positive. NCAM (CD56) is a marker for natural killer. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot, FLISA and Immunohistochemistry. Not suitable for use in Flow Cytometry. Other applications have not been tested. Recommended Dilutions: Immunohistochemistry: Frozen sections Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Store product at 4°C if to be used immediately within two weeks. For long-term storage, aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable at -20°C for 12 months after receipt. Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. Caution: FITC conjugates are sensitive to light. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Note: Applications are based on unconjugated antibody.
