- CD56 is a 175-185kD isoform of the neural cell adhesion molecule (NCAM), expressed by lymphocytes mediating non-MHC restricted cytotoxicity and is present on some neural tissues and tumors. NCAM is involved in intercellular adhesion and plays a role in outgrowth of neurites and the development of the nervous system. Two major epitopes have been defined. At the international Workshop on SCLC antibodies, categorized as cluster 1 antibody. All cells in small cell carcinomas and carcinoids of the lung are strongly positive. NCAM (CD56) is a marker for natural killer. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot, ELISA and Immunohistochemistry. Not suitable for use in Flow Cytometry. Other applications have not been tested. Recommended Dilutions: Immunohistochemistry: Frozen sections Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: Store product at 4°C if to be used immediately within two weeks. For long-term storage, aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable at -20°C for 12 months after receipt. Dilute required amount only prior to immediate use. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Note: Applications are based on unconjugated antibody.
