Extra Details:: CD31 (PECAM-1, Platelet gpIIa Molecule), a ~130kD integral membrane glycoprotein, is expressed in platelets, cultured endothelial cells, monocytes, normal tissue macrophages in tonsil, lung and kidney, skin biopsies from conditions such as sarcoidosis and lepromatous leprosy and bone marrow-derived hematopoietic stem cells and embryonic stem cells. CD31 mediates cell-cell adhesion. Valuable iin the study of benign and malignanat vaascular tumors. Stainiing for CD31 has also been used to measure angiogenesis, which reportedly predicts tumor recurrence.
