- Cav1 is a 21kD scaffolding protein which is the main component of the caveolae plasma membranes found in most cell types. Two isoforms (alpha and beta) are encoded by a single transcript from this gene. Cav1 is highly expressed in terminally differentiated or quiescent cells, suggesting a possible role for Cav1 as a negative regulator of cell proliferation. Cav1 has been implicated in the pathogenesis of oncogenic cell transformation, tumorigenesis, and metastasis and functions as a “tumor and/or metastasis-modifying gene”. For example Cav1 normally functions as a negative regulator of cell transformation and mammary tumorigenesis, whilst in prostate cancers Cav1 may function as a tumor promoter. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: ELISA: 1:32,000 Western Blot: 0.3-1ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only.
