- The protein encoded by ACTA2 (actin, alpha 2, smooth muscle, aorta) belongs to the actin family of proteins, which are highly conserved proteins that play a role in cell motility, structure and integrity. Alpha, beta and gamma actin isoforms have been identified, with alpha actins being a major constituent of the contractile apparatus, while beta and gamma actins are involved in the regulation of cell motility. This actin is an alpha actin that is found in skeletal muscle. Defects in this gene cause aortic aneurysm familial thoracic type 6. Multiple alternatively spliced variants, encoding the same protein, have been identified. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot, Immunofluorescence, and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1:10,000-1:100,000 Immunofluorescence: 1:100-1:200 Immunohistochemistry (paraffin): 1:1000-1:2000 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
