- Plakophilin-1 is a protein that in humans is encoded by the PKP1 gene. This gene encodes a member of the arm-repeat (armadillo) and plakophilin gene families. Plakophilin proteins contain numerous armadillo repeats, localize to cell desmosomes and nuclei, and participate in linking cadherins to intermediate filaments in the cytoskeleton. This protein may be involved in molecular recruitment and stabilization during desmosome formation. Mutations in this gene have been associated with the ectodermal dysplasia/skin fragility syndrome. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA, Immunohistochemistry and Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunohistochemistry (frozen): Ready-to-use (preincubation (directly after fixation) with 0.05-0.2% Triton X-100, for 5-10 min recommended; for delicate tissues like liver and gastrointestinal material preincubation with saponin is preferred) Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4°C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20°C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months after receipt. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
