Extra Details:
An acute-phase plasma protein found in human plasma at 100-300mg/100ml. Binds hemoglobin, thus preventing loss of iron through the kidneys. Humans are polymorphic for haptoglobin, with three major phenotypes. Hp 1-1 is the most common, and the most effective in binding free hemoglobin. Hp 2-2 is the least effective. This functional difference may be associated with the frequency and severity of epilepsy attacks, as researchers have found a correlation between recurring seizures and the Hp 2-2 phenotype. Hp 2-2 is associated with renal failure, familial epilepsy, hypertension, atherosclerosis and coronary heart diseases. Individuals who are phenotype 2-2 have the lowest concentration of haptoglobin in plasma. Source: Native Haptoglobin, from human plasma Purity: ≥95% (SDS-PAGE). No visible alpha-1 light chain. Molecular Weight:: 170,000-900,000 Extinction Coefficient: 1.20 Storage and Stability: Lyophilized and reconstituted products are stable for 6 months after receipt at -20°C.
