Hydroxocobalamin is a vitamin that has a specific antidote for cyanide poisoning. Hydroxocobalamin is synthesized from hydroxycobalamin, which is produced by the reaction of cyanide with cytochrome c in the presence of ferric ion, and it can be administered orally or intravenously. Hydroxocobalamin reacts with cyanide to form cyanocobalamin and releases the toxic hydrogen cyanide gas as a by-product. Hydroxocobalamin also has effects on cardiac tissue as it increases mitochondrial cytochrome C oxidase activity. The thermodynamic data for hydroxocobalamin are not available because this compound is unstable in water. Synonyms: Alpha Cobione; AlphaRedisol; Axlon; Ciplamin H; Hydroxo-cobalamin; Cobalex; Cobalin H; Cobinamide hydroxide phosphate 3'-ester with 5,6-dimethyl-1-α-D-ribofuranosylbenzimidazole Inner Salt; Codroxomin; Docclan; Docelan; Docevita; Droxomin; Ducobee Hy; Duradoce; Duralta-12; Hydrocobalamin; Hydrogrisevit; Hydrovit; Hydroxocobalamin; Hydroxocobalamine; Hydroxocobemine; Hydroxy vitamin B12; Hydroxycobalamin; Hydroxycobalamine; Hyxobamine; Idrogrisevit; Megamilbedoce; Neo-Betalin 12; Neo-Cytamen; Neo-Macrabin; Neo-Rojamin; OH-Duphar; Oxobemin; Primabalt RP; Redisol H; Sytobex H; Vibeden; Vitadurin; Vitamin B12a; α-(5,6-Dimethylbenzimidazolyl)hydroxocobamide CAS No: 13422-51-0 Molecular Formula: C₆₂H₈₉CoN₁₃O₁₅P Molecular Weight: 1346.36 Appearance: Dark red to very dark purple solid Purity: ≥95% Identification (A) FTIR: Conforms to reference Identification (B): Positive for Cobalt Identification (C) Retention Time: Conforms to reference pH: 8-10 Water: 14-18% RELATED COMPOUNDS: B6-Hydroxymethyl Derivative: ≤0.50% B5-Hydroxymethyl Derivative: ≤0.40% Impurity, Relative Retention Time, 0.70: ≤0.30% Impurity, Relative Retention Time, 0.75 ≤0.4% Impurity, Relative Retention Time, 0.82 ≤0.40% Impurity, Relative Retention Time, 0.93 ≤1.1% C8 Epimer: ≤1.0% Impurity, Relative Retention Time, 1.37-1.51: ≤0.50% Cyanoobalamin: ≤1% Other Impurity: ≤0.20% Sum of all Impurities: ≤4% Acetone: ≤0.5% Arsenic (As): As reported Residual Solvents: As reported Solubility: DMSO (Slightly), Methanol (Slightly), Water (Slightly) Storage and Stability: Store at 4°C under inert atmosphere.
